Louisiana Expands Concealed Carry Rights on July 4th

Beginning on Independence Day, Louisiana law permits adults 18 and older to carry concealed firearms without needing permits or training, following the enactment of a new law by Republican state Sen. Blake Miguez. Miguez highlights the significance of this legislation on the Fourth of July, stating it marks a historic moment for the state’s recognition of Second Amendment rights, advocating for what supporters call “constitutional carry.”

While Louisiana already allows open carry of firearms without permits, this expansion sparks debate over its potential effects on public safety. Opponents, including Moms Demand Action, argue that the absence of required training and permits could make communities more dangerous for both civilians and police officers. With Louisiana joining the ranks of 27 states that permit concealed carry without permits, the implications of this law are poised to impact local residents and law enforcement significantly.
