The Madisonville Police Department arrests Leonidas Velghe in connection with an armed robbery and shooting at the Checkered Flag Market on Highway 411 late Sunday night. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and quickly located Velghe, who was found in possession of two stolen firearms, a backpack filled with merchandise, and dressed in all-black including gloves and a ski mask.
Upon investigation, police discovered over a dozen spent 9mm rounds and multiple bullet holes in the store’s structure, though fortunately, no employees were present during the incident. Velghe’s admission that the guns were stolen during a prior burglary raises concerns about ongoing crime patterns in the area. The police urge anyone with information about the stolen weapons to come forward as the investigation continues.
