Maguindanao Sur Officials Surrender 16 Illicit Firearms

Local officials and civilians in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, have surrendered 16 high-powered firearms to the military as part of an ongoing campaign against unlicensed weapons. This initiative aligns with the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) program, which aims to reduce gun violence and ensure a peaceful environment for the upcoming midterm elections in May.

Brig. Gen. Donald Gumiran of the 6th Infantry Division highlights the growing support from the community, noting that over 400 unlicensed firearms have been surrendered in Central Mindanao since the start of the year. This significant turnout underscores the commitment of local leaders and residents towards fostering safety and security in their communities.
