In a significant move against gun violence, two leading U.S. manufacturers, Polymer80 and JSD Supply, will temporarily cease sales of their products in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania. This agreement comes as part of a settlement in a lawsuit filed by the city in July 2023, which accused the companies of contributing to the alarming rise in gun-related crimes through the production and sale of untraceable “ghost guns.” Philadelphia officials noted that ghost guns now account for a major portion of firearms used in criminal activities, with a fourfold increase reported from 2019 to 2022.
As part of the settlement terms, JSD Supply will stop all sales in Pennsylvania for four years, while Polymer80 will refrain from selling to customers in specific counties for the same length of time. Additionally, Polymer80 will contribute $1.3 million to initiatives aimed at combating gun violence in the city. With studies revealing these self-manufactured weapons have increasingly fallen into the hands of youth and individuals barred from owning firearms, this legal agreement highlights ongoing efforts to address public safety concerns within affected communities.
