Joshua Pavao, a 44-year-old man with ties to Florida and Coventry, pleads guilty to illegal possession of a modified semi-automatic firearm after a dramatic police chase. In December 2023, Pavao allegedly shot at a house and subsequently led East Providence police on a high-speed pursuit that culminated in a crash, scattering ammunition across the roadways. Police recovered three loaded firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition from his vehicle, which were ejected during the accident.
Pavao’s arsenal included eight long guns, four of which were modified to operate as machine guns. This concerning incident has drawn attention to the illegal use of firearms in the community, with Pavao scheduled to be sentenced on June 5. The extent of the ammunition recovered during the police search underscores the seriousness of the crime and raises questions about firearm regulations.
