Police in Lloydminster have charged 38-year-old John Charles Reid with several offenses, including wilful promotion of hatred, after an investigation led to the seizure of multiple firearms and a Nazi flag from his residence on December 2. The investigation began following credible reports of threats of violence directed at specific groups, primarily made online, prompting the RCMP’s crime reduction unit to execute a search warrant.
During the raid, authorities not only confiscated firearms and ammunition but also uncovered a Confederate flag, indicating an alarming context to the hate-related threats. Reid, who is set to appear in court on January 12, has been released under specific conditions as the investigation continues, underlining the community’s concern regarding rising hate-related violence.
