A 25-year-old man named Hector Sankitts is in custody following the Virgin Islands Police Department’s recovery of an assault rifle and ammunition during an ongoing operation linked to a double homicide from February. This significant development occurred on June 25 as part of “Operation Always Watching!”, which aims to address serious violent crime in the region.
The investigation began after a ShotSpotter alert led officers to the scene of the February 1 shooting near Yolanda’s Minibar in Frederiksted, where two gunshot victims later died. Sankitts has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license, and his bail is set at $50,000. He now awaits a hearing scheduled for Thursday, as police continue to gather evidence related to the broader homicide case.
