A Birmingham man, Alan Teague, has been sentenced to five years in prison after police discovered a viable firearm and ammunition hidden inside a vacuum cleaner at his residence. The police seized the weapon during a search prompted by reports of a gun being brandished in a dispute on June 29. Teague, 49, later admitted to possession of the firearm, which had been illegally converted from a blank-firing pistol, and faced justice at Birmingham Crown Court.
This incident underscores a growing concern regarding illegal firearms in the community, especially as the law has recently classified such converted weapons as illegal. Detective Sergeant Rosie Thomas emphasized the importance of seizing such firearms to enhance public safety, stating, “Guns cause fear and harm within our communities.” The unique hiding place for the firearm has drawn attention, making this a noteworthy case in efforts to combat gun violence.
