Man Points Gun at Officer, Released on Bail

Nicholas Smith, 40, is set to appear in court after being accused of pointing a gun at a Burrillville police officer’s face on July 8, 2025. Smith allegedly confronted police at his home on Tarklin Road while intoxicated, leading to a tense situation captured on body camera where he aimed a handgun inches from the officer’s face.

The Burrillville Police Department’s chief highlighted the incident’s potential danger, stating that the officer’s quick response not only saved her life but also prevented a more severe outcome. Smith faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and firearm possession while intoxicated, and has been released on $10,000 bail pending further legal proceedings.
