A 46-year-old man, David Johnson, has been sentenced to five years in prison after police found a modified firearm capable of firing live ammunition in his home. Hull Crown Court heard that Johnson, a known weapons collector with 85 prior convictions, had previously attempted to acquire prohibited firearms but was spared jail time back in 2018.
During a police operation, officers discovered the handgun concealed in a wardrobe, and a subsequent examination revealed it had been converted for lethal use. Johnson argued that he believed the weapon was merely a toy and intended to display it as part of his collection. However, the court dismissed his claims, emphasizing the seriousness of possessing a converted firearm and labeling Johnson’s behavior as a continuation of a concerning pattern of illegal activities.
