Maryland deer hunters report a harvest of 84,201 deer during the 2024-2025 season, marking a 15.9 percent increase over last year’s total of 72,642. This new figure includes 32,148 antlered and 47,271 antlerless white-tailed deer, contributing to a statewide figure that exceeds the five-year average by over 10 percent, as recorded from September 6, 2024, to February 4, 2025.
Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Karina Stonesifer attributes successful hunting conditions, aided by snow and cooler temperatures later in the season, to this robust harvest. Notably, Sunday hunting accounted for 11.2 percent of the total, with Frederick County leading in whitetail harvests at 6,869 deer, reflecting a 4.9 percent increase from last year. Maryland’s deer population remains strong, showcasing the effectiveness of wildlife management practices.
