Maryland Sues Glock Over Gun Violence Impact

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott have filed a lawsuit against Glock, claiming the firearm manufacturer contributed to the state’s escalating gun violence crisis. This legal action marks the first under the newly enacted Gun Industry Accountability Act, which prohibits companies in the gun industry from knowingly contributing to harm through their products.

The lawsuit alleges that Glock’s design allows their pistols to be easily converted into fully automatic weapons, known as “Glock switches,” leading to a dramatic increase in modified firearms recovered by police in Baltimore. In just one year, the number of these switches nearly doubled, with over 60 reported in 2024 alone. Leaders are demanding that the court impose stricter regulations on Glock’s manufacturing practices and require the company to pay restitution for its role in the gun violence crisis affecting the state.
