A memorial tree will be planted in Finger Lakes National Forest to honor Emily Finn, an 18-year-old college freshman who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend in Nesconset. This initiative is part of the Trees for Peace program, aimed at commemorating young lives lost to gun violence. Daniel Chapin, founder of the Youth Peace and Justice Foundation, emphasized that Emily’s life represents the potential of youth tragically cut short, highlighting the urgent need to address youth dating violence and firearm accessibility.
Finn, who was passionate about dance and pursuing a career in education, was killed during a domestic dispute involving her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend, who also shot himself but survived. Her family requests donations to The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in her memory. The Trees for Peace initiative aims to ensure that Finn’s legacy serves as a catalyst for meaningful change in addressing the violence against youth.
