A 47-year-old Middletown man, Fritznel Beauchamps, is sentenced to eight years in state prison following his guilty plea for attempting to rob a smoke shop at knifepoint in July. During the incident, which occurred on July 9, Beauchamps threatened an employee, demanding cash while wielding a knife. Fortunately, the employee managed to escape unharmed, and Beauchamps fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Beauchamps’ sentencing reflects his concerning criminal history, with three prior robbery-related convictions influencing the court’s decision. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler highlighted the importance of harsh penalties for repeat offenders, stating, “Repeat offenders who commit violent crimes deserve lengthy prison sentences.” Beauchamps’ incarceration aims to enhance public safety in Middletown, as officials believe that his absence from the community is necessary for security.
