Milton Officer Injured in Shooting During Fire Response

A Milton police sergeant was shot while responding to reports of a fire on Main Street, with the injuries being non-life-threatening. Sergeant Paul Locke, a veteran officer since 1999, was struck twice—one bullet was stopped by his vest, while the other penetrated his leg. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Aaron LaRoche, barricaded himself in his home before officers deployed flashbangs and a drone, discovering him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident unfolded as emergency crews arrived at the scene, prompting an extensive police presence throughout the night. Milton Selectboard Chair Darren Adams expressed gratitude that the situation did not lead to further injuries, stating that mental health resources would be available to first responders affected by the event. As investigations continue, details regarding LaRoche’s past interactions with authorities are emerging, underscoring concerns about mental health support in these critical situations.
