Mothers Urge Community Engagement Against Gun Violence

During the “100 Black Men of Lexington United” event, mothers who lost children to gun violence took the stage to share their heartbreaking experiences, aiming to inspire community action. Devine Carama, director of One Lexington, emphasized the importance of building a supportive community, recalling the personal pain of losing a child and his commitment to facilitate these necessary discussions.

One mother, Deana Mullins, poignantly recounted the tragic loss of her son, who was killed in a dispute over a mere $50, underscoring the reality many families face. As these mothers bravely voice their grief, Carama hopes their stories will motivate young men in the community to get involved and help foster a supportive environment reminiscent of a bygone “village mentality.”
