U.S. Representative Richard Hudson introduces the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, known as H.R. 38, which seeks to allow individuals to carry firearms across state lines legally. Presently, while 27 states operate under constitutional carry laws without requiring permits, North Carolina mandates permits for concealed carry, creating a legal gray area for travelers.
The act has gained support from local gun range owner Eric Hinshaw, who emphasizes the importance of education in firearm ownership. “It’s better to go ahead and have it and not need it,” he states, reflecting widespread concerns that drive individuals to purchase firearms. Hudson believes that the law should function similarly to a driver’s license, enabling law-abiding citizens to exercise their rights more freely while remaining accountable to each state’s regulations. H.R. 38 is in its early stages, but Hudson is optimistic about its future success.
