New Ad Council Campaign Focuses on Gun Storage Safety

The Ad Council launches a new phase of its Agree to Agree campaign, emphasizing the critical role of healthcare providers (HCPs) in addressing firearm storage safety. This initiative seeks to empower HCPs to engage patients in conversations about preventing firearm injuries, a leading cause of death among children and teens in the U.S. for four consecutive years.

Supported by the American Medical Association, the campaign aims to normalize discussions about gun safety in the context of routine healthcare, paralleling conversations about nutrition and smoking. Despite research indicating that 80% of adults have never been asked about firearms at home by their HCPs, data shows that when such conversations occur, patients are significantly more likely to adopt safer storage practices. The Agree to Agree website offers resources for clinicians to facilitate these discussions effectively.
