New York Attorney General Letitia James has initiated a lawsuit against Bowman’s Gun Shop in St. Lawrence County, alleging multiple violations of the state’s firearm safety laws. The suit claims the shop’s owner, Timothy Bowman, failed to secure firearms adequately, resulting in the theft of 58 guns during two separate break-ins, with the stolen weapons reportedly finding their way to cities as far away as New York City, Philadelphia, and even Barbados.
The Attorney General’s office asserts that Bowman’s actions pose serious risks to public safety and that he has not responded responsibly to previous violations despite having his license suspended in 2019. The lawsuit seeks to prevent Bowman from owning or operating any gun shop in New York, highlighting the ongoing challenges in enforcing gun safety regulations across the state as part of the Attorney General’s broader efforts to address gun violence.
