The New York Attorney General’s Office is suing Bowman’s Gun Shop in Gouverneur for allegedly failing to secure its inventory, resulting in the theft of nearly 60 firearms. Thieves accessed the shop during two separate break-ins, making off with guns that were later trafficked to New York City, Philadelphia, and as far as Barbados, raising serious concerns about public safety and illegal gun distribution.
Attorney General Letitia James highlights that owner Timothy Bowman violated state gun safety laws by not implementing adequate security measures despite previous burglaries. In 2019, Bowman faced legal issues for accepting handguns from prohibited individuals, and authorities discovered he left a storefront window open during the latest theft. The lawsuit aims to prevent Bowman from operating a gun shop again and to retrieve the profits made from these unlawful activities.
