New Zealand is deploying approximately 700 personnel to participate in the Southern Hemisphere’s largest military exercise, Talisman Sabre, which runs from July 13 to August 4. This year marks the first exercise since the New Zealand government announced significant increases in its defense budget, reflecting a commitment to strengthening military alliances in the Indo-Pacific region.
As part of the exercise, New Zealand will also field aging light armoured vehicles that present concerns about their effectiveness against advanced weaponry such as drones, while Australia and the U.S. will be showcasing cutting-edge military technologies, including autonomous systems and precision missiles. This collaboration aims to enhance interoperability among allied forces and adapt to modern warfare challenges, underscoring the complex dynamics in the region.
