Oakland Launches Dashboard for Ceasefire Program Tracking

Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention has introduced a new dashboard to track its Ceasefire gun violence prevention program, aimed at addressing the roots of violence in the community. Launched in July 2024, this online portal provides insights into demographics and risk factors of individuals most likely to engage in or fall victim to gun violence, showcasing the program’s reach in reducing crime rates in the city.

As of October 2024, the dashboard reveals that the majority of Ceasefire clients are young Black men, predominantly unemployed, and have a history with the criminal justice system. The program, credited with a significant reduction in homicides and shootings since reinvestment began, has enabled life coaches to work closely with 113 individuals, focusing on life goals that steer them away from violence. With a total of $318,516 in incentives provided to participants, the data supports community engagement strategies that could further contribute to public safety improvement.
