OC Judge Admits to Alcohol, Gun Misuse in Wife’s Death

During his testimony, Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson admits to carrying a concealed weapon while drinking alcohol, including on the day he fatally shot his wife, Sheryl Ferguson. He claims the shooting was an accident, resulting from a fumbled firearm as he attempted to show her he was no longer armed.

Ferguson, who has faced intense questioning from prosecutors about his behavior leading up to the incident, acknowledges being intoxicated during a lunch break prior to the shooting. The court examines the circumstances around the tragic event, including Ferguson’s repeated violations of concealed-carry regulations stemming from his concealed-carry permit, which prohibits carrying firearms while under the influence. Closing arguments are expected soon, with the prosecution seeking a second-degree murder conviction.
