A Florence police officer and a female bystander are hospitalized after a dramatic shootout unfolded during a bank robbery pursuit on Cox Creek Parkway. The incident began shortly after 3 PM when authorities chased a suspect who allegedly robbed the PNC Bank. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Rivermont Road, where the suspect opened fire on officers, injuring the officer and bystander.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was killed by law enforcement. In light of the shooting, Highway 72 near Shoals Outdoor Sports has been closed as investigators work on the scene. The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to a mental health call, later linking it to the robbery incident. The conditions of both victims are currently undisclosed, highlighting the urgent nature of police and community safety in such situations.
