Officer Identified in Fatal Dundalk Police Shooting

A Baltimore County police officer, identified as Michael Brady, shot and killed 43-year-old Glenn Pettie during a response to a mental health crisis on May 18. The incident occurred in Dundalk, where officers were called to de-escalate a situation at Pettie’s home, ultimately resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Brady, who has served with the police department for four years, is currently on paid administrative leave as the Maryland Office of the Attorney General investigates the shooting.

Residents expressed concerns about the handling of the episode, noting that Pettie’s family had reached out for help to alleviate his mental health struggles. Before his death, Pettie shared on social media his feelings of being overwhelmed, prompting friends to respond with messages of sympathy and support. Community members argue the situation might have been resolved differently, pointing to opportunities for de-escalation that were overlooked.
