Panama City Men Plead Guilty in Dogfighting Case

In a significant legal development, two men from Panama City, Fredricus White, 38, and Cornelious Johnson, 41, have pleaded guilty to violating the Animal Welfare Act as part of a multi-year investigation into a dogfighting ring. The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that the pair not only bred and trained dogs for illegal fights but also engaged in illegal gambling linked to these organized events from 2018 to early 2024.

Federal authorities uncovered additional details about their operation, including the use of two rural properties in Florida as training and breeding grounds for fighting dogs. This investigation, which initially began with charges in Georgia, culminated in the discovery of three firearms illegally possessed by White, who is a convicted felon. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin emphasized the severity of their crimes, stating that their actions represent a continued cruelty against animals, now leading them to face significant prison time.
