This week, a student at Lawrence High School discovered a firearm inside a gym bag that had been inadvertently dropped off by their parent at the school’s entrance. The Lawrence Police Department confirmed that they believe the presence of the gun was unintentional, emphasizing the need for proper firearm safety and storage to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The alert student promptly notified school staff about the gun, allowing them to act swiftly and ensure safety on campus. Principal Quentin Rials commended the student’s quick actions, which led to immediate involvement from the school resource officer and law enforcement. As the investigation unfolds, police are collaborating with the parent to understand how the firearm ended up in the bag sent to school.
