Paxton Threatens Austin Over Bank Contract Dispute

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issues a warning to the City of Austin, threatening legal action over its contract with WEX Bank, which he labels as “anti-gun.” Paxton claims that this agreement violates Senate Bill 19, which prohibits government contracts with companies that discriminate against the firearms industry, highlighting WEX Bank’s past decision to cease services for a military supplier, Defense Solutions Group.

Paxton’s letter demands that Austin either amend the contract by including compliance with SB 19 or terminate it altogether by July 16. He asserts that taxpayer dollars should not support companies that discriminate against constitutionally protected industries, emphasizing the importance of adherence to state law. This situation raises questions about the city’s contracting practices and the potential implications of legal action on local governance.
