Permits for Pennsylvania’s Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) are now available for purchase, allowing hunters to help regulate local deer populations across 95 units in state parks and forests. This year, the program offers 28,607 permits covering over 1.2 million acres of land, aimed at promoting ecosystem balance while facilitating sustainable forestry practices.
DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy deer population to support forest health, stating that the science-driven approach of DMAP is essential for long-term ecological sustainability. Each permit costs $10.97 for residents and permits hunters to take one antlerless deer on designated properties, with landowners of DMAP-approved areas able to provide additional permits.
