Pennsylvania Hunters Donate 1.1 Million Meals

Pennsylvania hunters make a significant impact this past hunting season by donating nearly 7,800 deer through the nonprofit program Hunters Sharing the Harvest, resulting in over 283,700 pounds of venison. This initiative highlights the state’s commitment to community welfare, with the venison donations equating to roughly 1.1 million meals for food banks across various counties, including Bradford and Tioga.

Launched in 1991, Hunters Sharing the Harvest allows sportspeople to embrace hunting as a social service while benefiting local food banks. Randy Ferguson, the executive director of the nonprofit, states that each year expectations are surpassed, demonstrating both the generosity of hunters and the ongoing effort to address hunger through such programs. This collaborative effort is supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, ensuring that nutritious meals are provided to those in need.
