A Pennsylvania judge has overturned gun regulations passed by the Pittsburgh City Council following the 2018 Tree of Life Synagogue shooting, where 11 worshippers lost their lives. Citing state law that prohibits municipalities from regulating firearms, Judge Joseph James ruled that the city’s ordinances are “void and unenforceable.”
The controversial measures, enacted to restrict military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, faced resistance from gun rights advocates, who argued they infringed on constitutional rights. City officials, led by Mayor Bill Peduto, have announced plans to appeal the decision, affirming their commitment to finding effective solutions to gun violence in Pittsburgh.
