Plainwell High School Incident Report Turns Out Unfounded

A concerning report of a student armed with a gun at Plainwell High School prompted an immediate shelter-in-place order, but local authorities later determined the claim to be unfounded. The incident began when school administrators received images allegedly showing a student with a firearm, leading them to contact law enforcement for assistance in locating the student amidst rising concerns for safety.

Upon investigation, the student in question was found on campus unharmed and without a weapon; it was revealed that the images circulating online were taken elsewhere in Kalamazoo County and depicted a BB pistol. Kevin Callahan, Plainwell’s Director of Public Safety, emphasized the importance of safety protocols and the effective collaboration with school personnel in addressing such scenarios. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the origin of the misleading images.
