Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre calls on the federal government to explicitly allow Canadians to use deadly force against home intruders who pose a threat. This proposal, dubbed a modern interpretation of the “Castle Doctrine,” follows a recent case in Ontario involving a homeowner charged after confronting an armed intruder.
During a press conference in Brampton, Poilievre argues current self-defense laws are overly complex and hinder effective action in dangerous situations. He insists that amending the Criminal Code to presume that lethal force is reasonable in such cases will empower Canadians to protect their homes and families without fear of legal repercussions.
