The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office determines that Concord police were justified in fatally shooting Nathan Lee Keesler, who was stabbing his father during a violent altercation. This conclusion follows an investigation that included multiple interviews and a review of body camera footage from the incident, which occurred on February 18, 2025.
Police responded to a 911 call from Keesler’s mother reporting the attack. When officers arrived, they found Keesler, 47, actively stabbing his father; despite commands to drop the knife, he refused, leading to the officers firing their weapons to protect the victim. Keesler was shot multiple times and later declared dead at the scene, while his father survived the attack with injuries.
