Chicago police are investigating a troubling series of six armed robberies that occurred after victims arranged meetups through social media. In each case, the robbers met the victims at predetermined times and locations, brandishing handguns to demand personal property and even forcing victims to send money electronically.
Authorities have not disclosed which social media platforms were involved or the specific reasons for the meetups. Police advise individuals to conduct transactions at local police stations instead to mitigate the risk of becoming victims of similar crimes. Anyone with information on these incidents is encouraged to contact Area Two Detectives.
