Portland Man Convicted of Attempted Murder of Police Officers

A Multnomah County jury convicts Joshua William Degerness on 14 counts, including six counts of attempted murder in the first degree, for shooting at three police officers during a traffic stop in December 2021. The incident escalated after Degerness crashed his vehicle into a tree while evading arrest and subsequently fired at officers, leading to a gunfight that resulted in his own injuries.

The prosecution highlighted the serious nature of the crime, which not only endangered the lives of the officers involved but also raised significant concerns about public safety. Sentencing is set for April 3, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 90 months for the attempted murder conviction, emphasizing the gravity of Degerness’s actions.
