The group reports over a 200 percent increase in youth gun-related incidents from 2020 to 2023, prompting calls for comprehensive strategies that include enhanced victim support services and legislative changes.
Among the proposed measures are school-based violence prevention programs to teach conflict resolution from an early age and trauma recovery centers in neighborhoods that experience high rates of gun violence. Co-chair Krystal Oriadha emphasizes the need for tangible results from these initiatives, noting the urgent need to support young individuals who feel compelled to carry firearms due to peer influence or societal pressures.
