Friends and family of 21-year-old Andre Simmons Jr. gathered in Eau Claire on Thursday morning to protest gun violence, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and community action. Simmons was shot and killed earlier this year, allegedly by his friend Du’Marion Stogner, prompting his loved ones to seek justice and prevent further tragedies.
The protest took place near Owen Park, where participants held signs and called for attention to the issue of gun violence. Organizers expressed their determination to ensure Simmons is not forgotten and to push for increased police vigilance in the community. “We are the only ones that can do it for him,” said Shannon Simmons, Andre’s mother, as she advocated for the maximum sentence for the alleged shooter, who is currently in custody.
