Public Meeting on Chronic Wasting Disease in Kentucky

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources announces a public meeting in Henderson County on May 8, 2025, to discuss Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) following its detection in a deer just across the Indiana border. This comes after a 2½-year-old male deer in Posey County, Indiana, tested positive for the disease, raising concerns for the neighboring Kentucky counties of Henderson and Union.

During the meeting, attendees will receive information about CWD, proposed regulations, and ways to report potentially infected deer. As CWD is a fatal neurological condition affecting deer populations and hunting practices, officials urge the public to remain informed and vigilant. Notably, this marks the third confirmed detection of CWD in Kentucky, raising awareness about the disease’s impact on local wildlife and community health.
