A 34-year-old man from Queensland, identified as Grafton Kaifoto, has been charged with illegally importing hundreds of firearm parts from the United States. Authorities allege that Kaifoto intended to assemble the parts into more than 30 Glock-style handguns, which could have been sold on the black market for $20,000 each. He was intercepted by the Australian Border Force at Brisbane International Airport while carrying consignment details for multiple packages linked to the illegal importation.
In a joint operation between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and ABF, officials uncovered a sophisticated plot involving the exportation of gun parts disguised within remote control car components. Detective Superintendent Adrian Telfer emphasized that this operation had prevented numerous illegal firearms from entering Australia, highlighting the community’s safety. Kaifoto now faces nine counts of attempting to traffic firearm parts, with substantial legal consequences if convicted.
