Raleigh Gang Member Sentenced for Gun Trafficking

Dwight Hinton, a 34-year-old high-ranking member of the Raleigh Crip gang, is sentenced to five years and 11 months in prison for illegal gun possession after pleading guilty on November 3, 2023. Hinton was involved in trafficking firearms in New York and used a straw purchaser to buy numerous weapons, including an AR-15 rifle that could potentially be converted to a machine gun.

While in custody, Hinton made headlines not only for his illegal activities but also for his violent behavior, including attacks on fellow inmates and discussions of a $20,000 murder-for-hire scheme. His extensive criminal history includes eight prior felony convictions, giving context to the severity of his current sentence.
