Raoul Leads Lawsuit Against Trump on Gun Device Redistribution

Attorney General Kwame Raoul, in coordination with 16 other states, files a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s decision to halt enforcement of federal laws against forced reset triggers (FRTs), devices that can effectively convert semi-automatic firearms into machine guns. Raoul emphasizes that these devices remain illegal in Illinois and underscores concerns about public safety, as FRTs have been increasingly linked to violent crimes and mass shootings, with the ATF noting a surge in their use.

The lawsuit seeks to block the redistribution of FRTs, arguing that doing so contravenes federal law and would jeopardize safety in states where such devices are prohibited. With estimates suggesting that over 100,000 FRTs have circulated in recent years, Raoul warns that the ongoing presence of these conversion devices threatens communities nationwide. He continues to advocate for enhanced gun regulations and collaborates with local law enforcement on initiatives to combat gun violence and support victims’ services.
