The suspected gunman, Dakota Hawver, has died after being shot by police following a tragic incident outside the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, where he killed three individuals. The shooting on July 28, 2025, left two Southern California residents, both 33 years old, and a local 66-year-old man dead, with no apparent connection between the victims and the shooter. Investigators revealed that Hawver fired approximately 80 rounds from a legally purchased 9mm handgun, and they have yet to determine a motive for the attack.
During the chaotic scene, which unfolded in the valet area of the casino, Hawver initially experienced a weapon malfunction before he managed to fire at a group of people, leading to a confrontation with armed casino security. The violent incident raises significant questions about security in popular tourist venues like the Grand Sierra Resort, known for hosting major events, including political rallies. As the investigation continues, two other individuals injured in the shooting are expected to recover fully.
