The Rensselaer Police Department announces the purchase of 12 new Glock .45 handguns and 11 body cameras, approved by the city council at the request of Police Chief Matt Anderson. The total expenditure of around $28,000 marks a significant upgrade, as many of the current handguns have surpassed 10 years in service and are increasingly difficult to maintain.
Alongside the weapons and cameras, the investment includes replacing holsters and magazines, ensuring officers have reliable and modern equipment for their duties. The new handguns, also equipped with red dot scopes, will enhance accuracy and familiarity among officers and county deputies, should the need arise for interoperability in emergency situations. This essential upgrade reflects a commitment to maintaining effective law enforcement in the community.
