Richmond Police Launch Operation Safe Summer 2025

The Richmond Police Department has officially launched its “Operation Safe Summer 2025,” a city-wide initiative designed to minimize crime during the warmer months. This year’s program focuses on safe firearm storage and reinforcing community trust through partnerships with local agencies and schools to create positive youth environments.

Notably, the program includes distributing gun safes to families, thanks to American Rescue Plan funding, and hosting community events for direct engagement. Following a previous year’s success, where violent crime decreased by 18%, the police aim to replicate these results while addressing juvenile involvement in non-fatal shootings, emphasizing that community participation is crucial for a safer Richmond.
