Rockford Dealer Gets 8.5 Years for Illegal Firearms Sales

A Rockford man, Joseph Garza, 40, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in federal prison for selling seven illegal firearms to an informant working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The illegal transactions took place between November 2017 and January 2018, and Garza’s admission of guilt came as part of a plea deal concluded in U.S. District Court in Northern Illinois.

This sentencing is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which aims to combat violent crime by targeting serious offenders in northern Illinois. In addition to his prison term, Garza will be subject to three years of parole, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to addressing gun violence and illicit firearms trafficking.
