Safe Steps Initiative Expands to West Philly

The Safe Steps initiative, aimed at reducing gun violence through community cleanup efforts, is set to cover 275 blocks in West Philadelphia through January. Following a successful 15-month program in Germantown and Mount Airy, where gun violence incidents dropped by 63%, the expansion signifies a strategic shift to tackle similar challenges in areas like Cobbs Creek and Overbrook Park.

Glitter, the organization behind the initiative, partners with community groups such as the ECS St. Barnabas Community Resource Center to ensure effective implementation and resident involvement. The program not only focuses on cleaning but also seeks to foster safer environments, with funding support from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency playing a crucial role in community investment and sustainability.
