San Diego Bank Robber Gets Life Sentence for Violent Heists

Larry Lightning Jr., a 45-year-old San Diego County man, is sentenced to 488 years and 8 months in prison after being convicted on 30 felony counts for a series of violent armed bank robberies. Over a span of three years from 2019 to 2022, he terrorized bank employees and customers while stealing nearly $400,000, employing firearms and extreme violence, including hostage-taking and physical assaults during his heists.

The case remained unsolved until a DNA match in 2022 led to his arrest, highlighting the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to bring him to justice. Prosecutors described Lightning’s brazen tactics, which included threatening bank staff while counting down to their compliance, leaving victims traumatized by the experience. This sentencing marks a significant victory for public safety and accountability in the community.
