San Rafael Shooter Convicted of Attempted Murder

A jury convicts Jose Alejandro Delacruz, 26, of attempted murder and assault with a firearm following a San Rafael street shooting that left the victim paralyzed from the waist down. The incident, which occurred on January 23, 2021, involved a confrontation between Delacruz and a 32-year-old man known to him, culminating in a single shot that inflicted life-altering injuries.

During the trial, the victim bravely testified from a wheelchair and expressed forgiveness for Delacruz, stating, “I think we all make mistakes.” Prosecutors revealed that the victim had previously encountered Delacruz in a separate incident, where tensions escalated. With sentencing scheduled for May 13, this case draws attention to the dangers of gun violence in communities and the personal stories that lie behind such tragic events.
