A vibrant mural created by 11 students at the Santa Fe Teen Center explores pressing issues of gun violence and mental health, officially unveiled in a dedication ceremony. This collaborative effort with New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence and Santa Fe Public Schools’ Wellness Ambassadors aims to give young people a platform to express their concerns about violence, discrimination, and well-being through art.
Featuring powerful imagery, including figures reaching for one another and the phrase “Peace and love over violence and hate,” the mural resonates deeply with students who have experienced real-life lockdowns and threats in their schools. As Santa Fe faces ongoing issues related to youth and gun violence, the students’ hope is for their artwork to spark important discussions and reflections in the community about these critical matters.
